Effective [launch date] · v1.0

The short version

  • In New York City and parts of New Jersey, our own licensed locksmiths install safes. We carry general liability insurance for that work.
  • Everywhere else in the US, we can refer you to a local specialist — you’d hire and pay them directly, and they’re responsible for their own work.
  • Installation is quoted separately from the safe and isn’t included in free shipping.
  • You’re responsible for confirming your floor and access can take the weight.
  • Vault doors: we don’t install them anywhere. Details

Where our own team installs

In New York City and parts of New Jersey, installation is performed by Alpine Safes’ own licensed locksmiths. Not a subcontractor, not a delivery crew with a dolly — the same people who have spent years opening, repairing, moving, and installing safes.

We carry general liability insurance covering this work. If our team damages your property while installing your safe, you’re dealing with us and with our insurer, not chasing a contractor.

What we do

  • Placement in the room you want it
  • Bolt-down anchoring to concrete, wood subfloor, or masonry
  • Lock setup: combination changes, electronic lock programming, user codes
  • A walk-through of operation before we leave
  • Removal of packaging and pallet

Priced per job, quoted before we start. Installation is a separate service from your safe and isn’t part of free shipping — the price depends on access, floor type, distance, stairs, and weight.

Before we quote

For anything beyond a straightforward ground-floor placement, we’ll ask for photos and measurements: the doorway, any stairs and landings, turns in hallways, the floor where the safe will sit, and the approach from the street.

This isn’t bureaucracy. A safe that won’t make a turn is a problem best discovered before a crew is standing in your driveway, and it’s how we give you a price that doesn’t change on the day.

What you confirm before we arrive

You are responsible for confirming that your building can take the weight. We can tell you what a safe weighs. We cannot tell you what your floor will hold.

Before we arrive, confirm:

  • The floor can carry the load — this matters for upper floors, decks, balconies, floors over a crawlspace or basement, and older buildings. If you’re at all unsure, ask a contractor or structural engineer. We are locksmiths, not structural engineers, and we can’t make that assessment for you
  • The route can take it — doorway widths, stair strength, landing turns, elevator capacity
  • You have permission, if you rent, are in a condo or co-op, or your building has an HOA. Anchoring a safe means drilling into the structure
  • Nothing is in the way — the path is clear, and anything fragile is moved

If a floor, stairway, or structure fails under the weight of a safe, that isn’t something we can be responsible for. Anchoring also means drilling, and while we take every reasonable precaution, we can’t see what’s inside a floor or wall before we drill into it. Tell us in advance if you know of radiant heating, post-tension cables, conduit, or plumbing runs.

We may decline work that isn’t safe

Our crew can stop or decline a job that presents a real risk of injury or property damage — a floor that looks inadequate, a stairway that won’t take it, an access route that can’t be done safely.

If that happens, we place the safe in the best available location and refund the installation fee. We won’t attempt something we think will hurt someone or wreck your house, and we’d rather refund you than find out we were right.

If something goes wrong during our work

Tell us immediately, while our team is still there if possible. Photograph the damage. We’ll assess it and, where it’s our responsibility, put it right through us or our insurer.

This covers our own installation work only. It doesn’t cover damage that occurred during freight delivery — that’s Damage, Defects & Claims — or work performed by anyone else.

Everywhere else: referrals only

Outside NYC and parts of NJ, Alpine Safes does not perform installation. We’re glad to suggest a local safe technician or moving specialist where we know of one.

A referral is an introduction, not a service we’re providing. Please be clear on what that means:

  • You hire and pay the installer directly. There’s no contract between you and Alpine Safes for that work
  • They are not our employees, agents, or subcontractors, and they don’t act on our behalf
  • We don’t supervise, control, guarantee, or warrant their work, their pricing, their timeliness, their insurance, or their conduct
  • We’re not liable for anything they do, including damage to your property or your safe
  • Any dispute about their work is between you and them

Check their credentials yourself before hiring: licensing, insurance, and references. We suggest people we’ve had reason to think well of, but we can’t vouch for how any particular job will go.

If a referred installer damages your safe, that’s a matter between you and them. It isn’t a warranty claim (manufacturer warranties generally exclude damage from improper installation) and it isn’t a freight claim.

Vault doors

We do not install vault doors, anywhere, under any circumstances. Not in NYC, not in NJ, not by referral.

Vault door installation is structural construction work. It involves the opening itself, the surrounding wall, and often the building’s structure. It needs a contractor working to the manufacturer’s specification, and it needs to be arranged by you before the door arrives.

Also true of vault doors:

  • Built to order, to your specific opening
  • All sales final. No returns, under any circumstances (returns policy)
  • Freight is quoted separately and is not covered by free shipping
  • Delivery is to the curb. Getting a vault door from the curb into position is part of the installation work you arrange

Talk to us before ordering one: (877) 587-7333.
