Effective [launch date] · v1.0

The short version

  • Safes are warranted by the manufacturer who built them, not by Alpine Safes. Warranty claims go directly to them.
  • Terms vary a lot between brands. The lock is almost always covered for far less time than the safe.
  • We’ve published what each of our six brands actually promises, with links to their own documents.
  • Register your safe and keep your receipt. For at least one brand, registration is required or there’s no warranty at all.
  • Damage in transit is not a warranty matter — that’s Damage, Defects & Claims, and it has a 48-hour deadline.

Who warrants your safe

Every safe we sell is covered by the warranty of the manufacturer who made it. Alpine Safes is the retailer. We do not provide a warranty of our own, and nothing on this page or anywhere on this site adopts, extends, modifies, or adds to any manufacturer’s warranty.

That means warranty claims are made directly with the manufacturer, under that manufacturer’s own terms and process. We’ve set out below what each brand publishes and where to file.

Two things we will always do: help you work out whether what you’re looking at is a warranty issue, and help you find the right place to take it. That’s part of owner support, and it isn’t a warranty.

How to make a warranty claim

  1. Identify what you’re dealing with. Transit damage, manufacturing defect, and normal cosmetic variation are three different things with three different processes. If you’re not sure, call us: (877) 587-7333. How they differ
  2. Find your proof of purchase. Every brand requires it. Your Alpine Safes order confirmation works — ask us if you can’t find it.
  3. Check whether registration was required. See the table below. For at least one brand this determines whether you have a warranty at all.
  4. Contact the manufacturer directly, using their published claim process.
  5. Watch the deadlines. Several brands require a police or fire report within 30 days of an incident.

Transit damage is not a warranty claim, and the clock is much shorter. If your safe arrived damaged, that’s a freight matter with a 48-hour reporting window: Damage, Defects & Claims. Don’t let a warranty conversation run past that deadline.

What to watch for

The lock is covered for far less time than the safe

This is the single most important thing on this page, and it’s the thing buyers discover last.

Five of our six brands warrant the safe body for far longer than the lock that opens it. A lifetime fire warranty on a safe whose lock carries one year is a common and entirely legal combination — and the lock is the part with moving components and electronics, which is to say the part most likely to need attention.

Four of the six don’t publish a separate lock term at all. That isn’t missing research on our part; those manufacturers simply don’t state one. Where a term isn’t published, the general warranty period is what you should plan around.

FireKing is the apparent exception, on their fire-rated file cabinets: locks would fall under “mechanical or operable parts,” which carry lifetime parts coverage. FireKing doesn’t say this explicitly, so treat it as a reasonable reading of their document rather than a promise they’ve made.

Fire coverage is not uniform

“Lifetime fire warranty” is not a single thing.

  • Gardall’s lifetime fire replacement applies to fire-resistive record safes only. Their gun safes, wall safes, floor safes, depositories, and TL-rated safes get one year.
  • Mesa’s dedicated fire safes — the MFS and MF series — have no fire-replacement warranty at all. Lifetime fire coverage applies to their MBF gun and Constitution safes. This surprises people, reasonably.
  • FireKing’s fire replacement is lifetime, and separate from their parts warranty. Their marketing lists “Limited 1-Year Warranty” and the fire replacement guarantee side by side, and it’s easy to read the 1 year as applying to fire. It doesn’t — the 1 year is parts. Data safes are excluded from the fire guarantee.
  • AMSEC’s lifetime coverage is model-dependent: UL fire safes, Super Brute floor safes, and gun safes 55 inches and taller. Shorter gun safes don’t qualify.

Burglary coverage

  • Gardall and FireKing publish no burglary warranty. Gardall goes further: a burglarized unit voids the defects warranty.
  • Hollon covers gun safes and TL-15 safes for burglary — but only if your homeowner’s insurance declines the claim first, and you’ll need written documentation of that denial.
  • Hayman and AMSEC cover burglary on qualifying models with no insurance condition — a police report is what’s required.

A fair note on Hollon: their insurance condition is the strictest term of the six, and they’re also the only brand that pays warranty freight in both directions and covers locksmith costs. On a 700 lb safe that’s a real offset. Neither fact is visible at the point of purchase, which is why both are here.

Who pays to ship a warranty replacement

This is the most financially significant line in the table and the one nobody mentions at the point of sale. A warranty replacement on a several-hundred-pound safe involves freight in one or both directions.

  • Hollon pays both ways, plus locksmith costs, within the contiguous US
  • FireKing ships replacements freight collect — you pay the carrier on arrival
  • Hayman: you pay both directions
  • AMSEC: you prepay inbound freight
  • Gardall: you pay transport and labor on repairs
  • Mesa: their document states you’re responsible for shipping and removal

A “free replacement” that arrives freight collect is not free. Budget for it.

Registration and reporting deadlines

  • Gardall requires the registration card to be returned to qualify for warranty service at all. Of our six brands this is the only hard requirement — do it when your safe arrives.
  • AMSEC’s registration page and its warranty document disagree on whether registration is required. Register anyway; it costs nothing.
  • AMSEC and Mesa require a police and/or fire report within 30 days of an incident. AMSEC also requires the safe returned to the factory within 30 days of the loss.
  • Hollon requires shipping damage reported within 7 days — but for anything you bought from us, our 48-hour window applies and is what you should work to.

Easy ways to void a warranty

Every one of these appears in a manufacturer’s published terms, and several are genuinely easy to trip:

  • Using a residential safe commercially — AMSEC voids the warranty entirely across a long list of models. Hollon’s terms are residential-use-only too
  • Changing the combination without factory permission — Gardall
  • Having a non-locksmith reset a Group II or 2M dial — Hollon
  • Improper installation — Hayman states it nullifies every guarantee
  • Skipping the manufacturer’s phone troubleshooting before requesting service — Mesa won’t cover a visit you didn’t clear first
  • Moving a cabinet with non-FireKing technicians — FireKing excludes failures resulting from it
  • Unauthorized repair, modification, or drilling — all six
  • Water, moisture, and condensation damage — all six

Not sure whether something you’re about to do would void your warranty? Ask us first. That’s exactly the kind of question owner support exists for.

Brand by brand

AMSEC (American Security)

Body 1 year parts and labor as standard; 5 years on BFX, BFII and RF models fitted with a factory AMSEC lock; lifetime free replacement on UL fire safes, Super Brute floor safes, and gun safes 55″ and taller. Locks 1 year (electronic retrofit kits: parts only). Lifetime fire and burglary on qualifying models with no insurance condition — a police or fire report within 30 days, and the safe returned to the factory within 30 days of the loss. Commercial use of a residential model voids the warranty entirely. Not transferable. You prepay inbound freight. Source: AMSEC 2024 Limited Product Warranty (rev. 7/24/2024)

FireKing

Terms vary more by product line than any other brand here. Fire-rated file cabinets: 2 years labour plus lifetime parts, with lifetime after-fire replacement. Safes (KF series): 1 year parts, plus lifetime fire replacement. Depository, FireShield and personal safes: 1 year. Data safes are excluded from the fire guarantee. No burglary warranty — burglary and vandalism are excluded. No separate lock term is published. Not transferable. Replacements ship freight collect. Note their published warranty and one product page disagree on personal safes (90 days vs 1 year). Source: FireKing warranty · Product Warranty Sheet

Gardall

1 year on defects to the original retail purchaser, with lifetime replacement on fire-resistive record safes only — not gun, wall, floor, depository or TL-rated models. No lock term published. No burglary warranty, and a burglarized unit voids the defects warranty. The registration card must be returned to qualify for warranty service. Changing the combination without factory permission voids coverage. You pay transport and labor on repairs. Source: Gardall Retail Price List (eff. June 1, 2021) · gardall.com/support

Hayman

1 year on defects (RAFS series 3 years). Lifetime fire and burglary guarantees, at Hayman’s option, on standard production safes, gun safes and polymer floor safes — with no insurance condition. No lock term published; Hayman’s guides direct lock questions to SecuRAM and La Gard. Improper installation nullifies every guarantee. Their terms state the warranty cannot be changed without direct written consent — so no dealer, including us, can promise more than Hayman does. You pay freight in both directions. Hollon

1 year parts and labor; 2 years on replacement parts. Lifetime fire on fireproof safes; lifetime fire and burglary on gun safes and TL-15 safes — conditional on your homeowner’s insurance declining the claim first, with written documentation from the insurer required. Locks 1 year. Electronics excluded entirely on floor-installed safes. Residential, non-commercial use only; doesn’t apply to vault and security doors; contiguous US only. A Group II or 2M dial reset by a non-locksmith voids the warranty. Hollon pays freight both ways and covers locksmith costs — the best freight terms of any brand we carry. Mesa Safe

Lifetime fire and burglary on MBF gun safes and Constitution safes only. Everything else — including the MFS and MF fire safes and the MGL gun safes — is 1 year on manufacturing defects, with no fire-replacement warranty. Locks 1 year. Not transferable, and requires purchase from an authorized dealer. Police and/or fire report within 30 days. Mesa requires phone troubleshooting before service, and if an on-site technician finds user error, you pay. Their document is internally inconsistent on freight; the binding text states you are responsible for shipping and removal charges. Source: mesasafe.com/technical-support

We’ve published these terms as each manufacturer publishes them, and linked their documents so you can read them yourself. They’re summaries, they were accurate when we wrote them, and manufacturers change terms without telling retailers. The manufacturer’s own current document is what governs your warranty — not this page. If you spot a discrepancy, tell us and we’ll correct it.
